Founded in 2005 by Brad and Cristina Burk, the foundation's mission is to help alleviate the unnecessary human suffering brought about by hunger and disease, which is rapidly and inequitably claiming the lives of those that have no voice. Those that need someone to come on their behalf.
Our Story.... Walking through a shanty town during a Cholera epidemic in Peru, Cristina Burk witnessed a scene that would forever alter her life.
As she walked on, she gazed at what first appeared to be a shadow rustling through a very large pile of trash that had been left to rot in the middle of the street. The shadow, softly and quietly morphed into a small pale-faced boy; about the age of two. He was alone, barefoot and naked from the waist down, and wearing only a white t-shirt that clung tightly around his enlarged stomach just above his belly button. With a frightened look and an untrusting gaze fixed on her, he fiercely and desperately scavenged any food that he could find.
The scene triggered an emotional crisis,and the image of that small boy still haunts her today.
